Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact. Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

5 out of 5 stars Works well at a good price   December 25, 2009

This lens hood seems to be pretty much an exact match for the much more expensive Canon-branded product. It mounts perfectly and seems to be well made. I have no problem recommending it.

5 out of 5 stars No different than Canon   April 14, 2010

Well, I'm impressed.

Once again, an aftermarket company makes a product that is the OEM's equal in every way, only at a much better price!

These hoods use the lens's bayonet mount, and can be reversed on the lens for storage, just like the ones made by Canon. They are the right length to prevent vignetting on their recommended lenses. I also bought one for my kit lens and it is just as nice as this one I got for my EF 75-300 II.

Great product, outstanding deal.

5 out of 5 stars Good Value!   August 20, 2010

I am happy to confirm all the good things said about this lens hood by the previous posters. Also, this hood is deep enough to protect the lens and shield it from stray light. I used this hood when taking 1500 photos with my Canon 55-250 lens and there was no sign that it affected the photo in any way.

I am very impressed with Fotodiox as a supplier of camera accessories. I now have hoods for two lenses and lens caps, all very well made and purchased for a fraction of what I would have had to pay for the equivalent from Canon or other suppliers.

You will need a center-pinch lens cap if you use this hood. The Fotodiox lens cap sold by Amazon would be a good choice.

5 out of 5 stars OEM quality   May 9, 2010

As the other reviewers have said, this is an exact match for the $30 Canon one. For all I know, it was made with the same mold and out of the same plastic.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that it doesn't say "Canon" on it like the OEM one does. If that's worth $20 to you, by all means buy the OEM hood.

5 out of 5 stars Cheaper than Canon   June 17, 2010

Nothing special here. Just a plastic hood sold for a fraction of the cost of original Canon hood. Works fine.
